KTU is the largest technical university in the Baltic States with over 16 thousand students, 400 Ph.D. students and academic staff of about 1200 employees. The University is particularly active in research fields of manufacturing technologies, mechatronics, measurement engineering, ultrasonic diagnostics, material science, control systems and information technology. Institute for Hi-Tech Development, operating within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, specializes in R&D of macro/micro-mechatronical systems including MEMS devices, micro-energy harvesters as well as effective cutting tools employing integrated smart materials with emphasis on numerical and experimental analysis as well as optimization of dynamic response.
