Arfan completed his PhD research in 2007 at the University of Ulster. He obtained a Master of Science by research (MSc) degree in Computer Systems Engineering (System-on-Chip) from the Technical University of Denmark, BEng (Hons) in Electronics from N.E.D Engineering University in Pakistan, and MBA Executive certificate from Copenhagen Business School. He gained industrial R&D experience in FPGA/ASIC design, VLSI system design, and hardware/software co-design. He has been invloved in project management and has worked with Siemens (Pak), Vitesse Semiconductors (Denmark) and Intel Research at the University of Cambridge.

Arfan has research interests in biomedical circuits and systems, bioinspired electronic systems, low-power design, spiking neural networks, neural signal processing and systems-on-chip design. The overlying goal of my research is to learn from biology to create more efficient electronic systems and develop technologies for medicine and healthcare.
